Mapping the Mindbody Client Home Location to a Shopify Customer Meta Field
ShopConnect, as of version 2.9, now supports automatic syncing of the Mindbody client’s Home Location into a custom metafield on the Shopify customer record. This functionality enhances your customer data in Shopify, enabling location-based filtering, segmentation, and reporting—without any manual updates.
This guide outlines how the feature works, how to ensure your metafield is correctly configured in Shopify, and how to structure the custom field during onboarding.
When a customer is created or updated in Mindbody, ShopConnect automatically maps their Home Location name to a designated custom metafield in the Shopify customer profile.
- Field Name: Mindbody home location
- Metafield Namespace & Key: custom.mindbody_home_location
- Description: Mindbody client’s home location
- Type: Single line text
You can view the synced Home Location directly in each customer’s Shopify profile under the Metafields section.
ie: Mindbody home location: Doylestown This allows staff or automation tools to filter and interact with customer records based on their original Mindbody home location.

Shopify requires metafield data to be structured in order to use it effectively for filtering, automation, and reporting. Once ShopConnect begins syncing the Home Location metafield, you’ll need to structure it in Shopify to unlock its full functionality.
Follow these steps:
- From your Shopify Admin, go to Settings > Custom data
- Select Customers under Metafield definitions

If the metafield was not yet structured, you’ll see it listed as unstructured.
- Click View unstructured metafields
- Locate Mindbody home location in the list
-
- Click Add definition
- Enter the following:
- Name: Mindbody home location
- Description: Mindbody client’s home location
- Type: Single line text
- Click Save
- Once saved, Shopify will treat the metafield as a structured field, making it easier to search, filter, and integrate with third-party tools.

To take full advantage of this feature, ensure your team includes the metafield setup as part of your ShopConnect onboarding process:
- Verify that the Mindbody home location metafield appears on at least one synced customer record.
- Follow the steps above to structure the metafield properly in Shopify.
- Confirm that the field is visible and accessible within customer profiles for easy reference.
Once configured, this integration enriches your customer data, improves visibility, and supports more powerful customer segmentation and reporting directly within Shopify.
